£173,800 (L.B. Richmond supplied the natural stone)
Programme:
2 phases over 20 weeks completed March 2004
Description:
Reconstruction of a very busy pedestrianised area and access road. The materials used were new York Stone paving and York Stone setts laid on mortar with the jointing between the slabs and setts in special gun applied high strength mortar. The scheme involved installation of new drainage and ducting and also the installation of underground lighting units. New brick planters and face brickwork walls and steps were also included.
This scheme took place an extremely busy pedestrian area with shops and restaurants at both sides. Pedestrian traffic had to have a clearly defined route through the works at all times and access to all shops and businesses had to be maintained.
This involved working in very small phases, completing one area before starting work in another and also a lot of working out of normal working hours / nights etc.
The quality of the works had to be first class and very precise and working to exact setting out details with regard to alignment and level was crucial.
